HOW TO USE THIS RESOURCE
Start by giving students the quiz and scoring pages without revealing the answers. Students read each scenario, choose what they would do, and calculate their survival scores.
Once everyone has discovered their fate, distribute the Secrets page. Invite students to identify patterns in the highest-scoring choices and discuss how authors use clues, suspense, and unexpected events to keep readers turning pages.
Finish with an extension activity, use the quiz as an ELA center, or save the creative challenges for homework or a substitute lesson.
For grades 3–4, the scenarios can also be read aloud, with a few dramatic sound effects to make the scratching at the bedroom door even more suspenseful!
GRADE LEVELS: Grades 3–7, with separate extension challenges for grades 3–4 and 5–7.
PREPARATION: Print and go.
CONTENT: Original characters and scenarios with a spooky-silly atmosphere. No violence or gore.
Bring a little mystery, a few goosebumps, and plenty of storytelling fun to your ELA classroom!
